#Firstcontact (Learnathon 1)

Below you will find a description of our 1st learnathon.

Problem:

The child (girl or boy) from the logo and the robot (girl, boy, it) have just met (look at the logo!) How can they communicate and begin to understand each other?

Please ask the children to help solve the problem - what are their ideas?

Can they help the characters communicate with e.g. symbols, music/rhythm, movements, patterns (in a way that involves some kind of computational thinking at the appropriate level) or is there another way? Later in the story, it turns out that the robot has a message for the child (each school will decide what this is).

Please remember - this is not just a storytelling activity. It needs to include and encourage computational thinking (maybe sequence, decomposing, debugging, giving instructions).

Each school will capture by video or photos or drawings/paintings/models the story that the children and teacher put together. It should include some challenge for the audience of the other schools (e.g. copy or answer this rhythm, do these movements, sing this song, use this shape or symbol). How they tell the story is up to each school, also how long or short it is - short is fine!

It could involve acting or pictures, puppets, models or toys. The school might choose to use technology but this is not essential.

Deadline for sharing on Etwinning site twinspace will be confirmed later, with some other dates. The schools can then view the different videos, try the challenges, and make a response or reply.

We aim to share and celebrate all the results at the meeting in Finland.

Main points:

>> Children and teacher make a story to solve the problem

>> Story characters are from the logo

>> Use computational thinking in some way

>> Video to share and a challenge for the other schools to enjoy

>> No need to use technology, but use the tag #firstcontact for this story.
